Angels of Assisi
Located in downtown Roanoke, this animal shelter is redefining the traditional shelter. Not only do they do spay/neutering, rescues and adoptions, they also offer full service veterinary care. Additionaly, they have a farm animal sanctuary, where there are currently nearly 200 pigs, cows, horses, chickens, rabbits, goats and sheep residing. Check out their list of needs, including pet food, cat scratching towers, office supplies, cleaning supplies, animal crates, toys and more.
Blue Ridge Women’s Center
Located on the corner of Williamson Road & Airport Road, this non-profit limited medical clinic provides hope, help and resources for women facing unplanned pregnancy. Services include pregnancy counseling, pregnancy testing, ultrasound, parent & life skills classes, baby boutique shopping (items are earned through class attendance), mentoring, connecting clients with community resources and more. If you have maternity clothing, baby food/formula and other baby items, they can be donated for the little ones and their moms in our community. Habitat for Humanity
From building materials to light bulbs, furniture to decor, Habitat for Humanity offers many items for sale in their ReStore. Profits benefit local familes, including supplies for building them homes. And you can help invest in your community through donations! For more information on donating, check out their website.
Katie’s Place
A safe learning environment for adults with special needs, Katie’s Place helps participants reach their personal goals in establishing skills. Adults learn to cook meals, garden, clean the home, navigate public transportation, and serve their community. This Day Camp provides an avenue for special needs adults to work towards self-sufficiency. Craft supplies, office supplies and healthy snacks are items this non-profit can use. View more info here.
Rescue Mission
This non-profit is more than just a soup kitchen and overnight shelter. Their all-encompassing services to the needy include a medical clinic, year-long resident program, education and mentorship programs, job help, kids programs and more. Their needs are widespread and can include the basics (hygiene, clothing, linens, office supplies, cleaning items, etc.) to larger donations such as vehicles, industrial lights, fans, air conditioning units, etc. Check out their Wish List and Ways to Give. If you have a specific question about your items, just contact them. Donate items can also be sold in their thrift stores, which directly profit the mission.
Salvation Army
When you donate items to their thrift store located on Williamson Road, those proceeds fund various programs for needy families in Roanoke, including those suffering from domestic violence. Other services include youth and senior programs, disaster relief, helping families combat generational poverty and providing a drop-in center for former foster youth who are homeless or at risk of human trafficking. In addition to offering free pickup Monday-Saturday, Salvation Army also accepts donations in their bins at various locations throughout the community – see that list here. Straight Street/Street Ransom
This inner-city ministry to at-risk youths provides a safe place of fun and learning while reaching deep into the heart of each person who walks through their doors. From food to Bible studies to Saturday night basketball games, Street Street is a happening place where youth belong. It’s a Community. A place of fun, faith, help and hope. Services include Prison Angel Tree, Saturday night programs for middle and high schoolers. mentoring, Parent Life for teens and young adults and more. Street Ransom is a ministry of Straight Street, a shelter for juvenile human trafficking victims. Check out their wish list.
